What is the CREA?
par otc

The Centre for Research on Ecosystems at Altitude (CREA) is based in Chamonix. It was created in 1996 by Anne Delestrade, a respected specialist of the Chocard (Alpine Chuff), a bird emblematic of our mountains.
Today, CREA, consists of five employees, who will research through high level as well as popular science to make the public and decision-makers more aware of the richness of the alpine environment.
This is a vocation which is reaffirmed by Hervé Villard, the new director, to give more credibility to the activities of the association, whose Phénoclim programme is the best known.
Phénoclim is involved in participatory science, where everyone can become a scientist, in the time it takes to make an observation on the natural environment. By noting in Spring the dates of the first appearance of the first buds, the first flowers, then in Autumn the turning and falling of leaves, the volunteers (classes, individuals, managers of protected areas...), offer researchers important information about the development of Alpine ecosystems.
Convinced from the outset by this project; the Somfy foundation has enabled the installation of 58 weather stations in the Western Alps. The aim is to develop Phénoclim and its observation network throughout the Alpine area.
CREA, also has Phénopiaf and many other project going on ... You can find details of these through the "forum of scientific activists" during the festival of science in Chamonix on 22nd May.
