CREA

par otc

We have already presented this organisation in a previous note, but here is a new, more concise, version....
The Centre for Research on Ecosystems at Altitude (CREA) is a non-profit-making organisation aimed at developing scientific research in high altitude locations and at educating the public through scientific activities.

Established since 1996, it has developed rapidly in a few years, and today has six salaried workers. It is situated on the premises of the Mont-Blanc Observatory, laboratory of Joseph VALLOT (1854-1925), and is part of this long line of natural scientists who have found, in the Mont-Blanc massif, a superb expression for their passion.

par otc

Sylvain Coutterand has been a geomorphologist at the EDYTEM laboratory (Environment and Dynamics of Mountainous Terrain) at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) of the University of Savoie since its creation in 2002.
Specialising in the study of glaciations from the Quaternary period , his research work has appeared in a number of popular articles and peer-reviewed publications. Currently he is finalising a thesis on glacial geomorphology which deals with the last ice-age and the de-glaciation in the Northern Alps..
He lectures from time to time on glacier geomorphology at the Geographical Institute of Lausanne and he collaborates regularly in popular television programmes. He also dedicates part of his energies to the popularisation and spread of scientific research in the form of « glacier discovery » trips.
