What is carbon off-setting
par otc
Carbon off-setting is to compensate for the CO2 emissions which we emit during a journey by car or plane.
It is important to note that before compensating for our emissions, we should first look at how we can reduce them and so try to come by train or share a car for example..
After this we compensate for what we can’t reduce.
Carbon off-setting is carried out by calculating what one emits in equivalent tons of CO 2 (because of course we don’t emit only carbon, so we calculate an equivalence). Next we calculate in euros what this emission costs. This is a standard calculation of X euros per ton of CO2 emitted.
This money is paid into a project that aims to absorb the tons of CO2 we have emitted: tree plantations etc. Young trees absorb the CO2 emitted into the air.
Compensation is global action. When people travel from Asia to France, they emit carbon on a planetary scale. It is logical therefore to react at a global level, that is to say on a planetary scale. This also allows the reforestation of parts of the world which have more need of vegetation than Europe for example. If you have no choice but to come to Chamonix by plane or car,you can compensate for your CO2 emissions.
Where to compensate?
There are two organisations in France at present which are recognised for achieving carbon compensation. Your can calculate your emissions of CO2 on their websites and pay an equivalent sum directly to them online.

Morgane Hotel****
par otc

If we could recommend today a hotel which has a genuine environmental project it would be the hotel « Le Morgane » .
Its great advantage : it is a new building. Carrying out an environmental project at the start of a construction is obviously much easier than doing it in an existing building. However, it should be noted that le Morgane has laid emphasis on ...
- heat pumps and solar panels for energy management,
- the use of local materials: slate, granite and wood for the building,
- Use of water-based varnish and paints without solvents for the internal decoration...
First and foremost, the staff training is an indispensable part of this type of project.
The aim is to achieve zero CO2 energy emissions. The clean up has begun!
To verify its project and to implement a real environmental management plan, the hotel Le Morgane is currently undergoing ISO 14001 certification.
A new hotel promising great success to Chamonix! Le Morgane has 56 bedrooms, a Michelin starred restaurant, a spa and luxury conference room – all situated in a contemporary atmosphere...
Don’t wait...
